Debugging the Add-In

To be able to debug the Add-In, do the following:
  • On properties of the SPDevExplorer project, go to the Debug tab
  • Set "Start Action" to "Start external program", use program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe
  • Under "Start Option" set "Command line arguments" to: /resetaddin SPDevExplorer.Connect
  • Under "Start Option" set "Working directory" to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE

Make sure that the "SharePoint Developer Explorer" Add-in is not loaded in the current Visual Studio:
  • Go to Tools->Add-in Manager...
  • Make sure that the "SharePoint Developer Explorer" is not selected under "Available Add-ins" not marked for "Startup"

Now start with F5 for debugging. If the following message is given on starting the new Visual Studio:

Microsoft Visual Studio
The following module was built either with optimizations enabled or without debug information:
D:\Projects\SPDevExplorer\SPDevExplorer.Setup\SPDevExplorer.dll
To debug this module, change its project build configuration to Debug mode. To suppress this message, disable the 'Warn if no user code on launch' debugger option.
OK

excute the following steps to solve this:
  • Exit Visual Studio
  • Delete the files in your project folder D:\Projects\SPDevExplorer\SPDevExplorer.Setup (or your project folder).
  • Start Visual Studio again and try again. The current Visual Studio may not have the Add-In loaded
  • On the debugged Visual Studio select the "SharePoint Developer Explorer" under "Available Add-ins" (Tools->Add-in Manager) to make the SharePoint Explorer tool available under the tools menu.
